How does it work?
Medical Consultation & Check-Up
You will receive all the necessary information from the doctor and have a medical check-up, including an ultrasound.
Take the pill
After the check-up, you will take the first medication, which will start the abortion process. You will receive the second medication to take at home.
Take the 2nd medication (at home)
Take the second medication at home 36–48 hours after the first one. This medicine causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy.
Check-up after 14 days
A follow-up gynecological examination, including an ultrasound, is required 14 days after the procedure to confirm that the pregnancy has been successfully terminated.
we’re here to answer all your questions
Who can have a medical abortion in Austria?
Any woman, including non-residents, can access abortion services in Austria. No residence permit or Austrian insurance is required.
Up to what week can a medical abortion be performed?
The medical (pill-based) abortion is possible up to the 9th week of pregnancy (63 days after the first day of your last period). After that, only surgical methods are used.
What is included in the price?
The price covers the full package: check-up, medical consultation, ultrasound, both medications, and a follow-up appointment to confirm completion.
Is a follow-up visit required?
Yes. A check-up (including ultrasound) about 14 days later is required to confirm that the pregnancy has ended completely. This can be done in Austria or in your home country.
How effective is the medical abortion?
The effectiveness of a medical abortion depends on individual medical factors.
In some cases, additional medication or a further medical procedure may be required.
